Beverly Edwina Pope

Beverly was born in the Bronx on Dec. 6, 1932, the daughter of the late Charles J. and Ida Anna (Metzger) Gehrig. She attended school in the Bronx. Beverly was employed as a CNA for over 20 years at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.

She married the love of her life William J. Pope on June 13, 1953; the couple was married for 66 years. They moved to Saranac Lake in 1969 and resided there until 2002. They also lived in Cherry Valley and the Cobleskill. Beverly moved into Mayfield apartments in Potsdam in 2019. Mr. Pope, a retired small business owner in Saranac Lake passed away on July 14, 2019.

Beverly is survived by her daughters, Deborah Butler of Ballston Spa and Theresa (Joel) Church of Norwood. A sister Dorothy Pellegrini of Guilderland, New York, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband William “Bill”, a son William “Billy” P., and a brother Sonny.

Beverly was an avid knitter, who also enjoyed crocheting. It was her joy to spend hours creating beautiful afghans, baby sweater sets and dresses, many of which were given away or bought by others as gifts. Romance novels were another indulgence and she would often be seen by neighbors sitting outside on the lawn, reading. Beverly will be remembered by friends and family as a caring and warm individual with a quirky sense of humor; many a story was told over the years about life in the Bronx and how important family was to her.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Gerald B.H. Soloman Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York.
