Geneva R. Courtney

Geneva was born on Oct. 3, 1928 in Burke, the daughter of David and Dora (Carron) Perras.

Geneva graduated from Saranac Lake High School and married the love of her life James E. Courtney, Jr. on Feb. 12, 1949. She worked as a teachers aide for a number of years at BOCES, Adirondack Educational Center in Saranac Lake. Together she and Jim raised their eight children in Saranac Lake.

Geneva is survived by her children: Randy Courtney (Diane Stamm), Jeanette (Brian) Barden, Judy (Joe) Vercek, Lynn (Randy) Smith, James D. and Timothy Courtney, Alice (Rick) Sofield and Tammy (Frank) Landerway. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Geneva was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James E. Courtney, Jr.; her parents, David and Dora (Carron) Perras; her brothers, Wilfred and Robert Perras; and her sisters, Lucielle Rankin, Dasie Villnave and Vina Pallicella. She was also predeceased on Oct. 15, 2022 by her granddaughter Kristie Smith.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. At Geneva’s request there will be no calling hours. All services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s cemetery in the family lot. Fr. Martin Cline will officiate burial services.
