Susan Riley

With a fading smile and gleam in her eyes, Susan bid a farewell to her family on Aug. 1, 2022. She was born on Nov. 1, 1944 in Lake Placid to Parnell and Grace Ormsby. Susan was predeceased by her parents and brother Parnell “Chip” Ormsby. She attended St. Pius and Lake Placid High School, and was crowned Lake Placid Winter Carnival Snow Queen.

She and her husband Michael have lived in Saratoga Springs since 1973. She graduated from Albany Business College and worked in Albany and Lake Placid as a dental assistant. She later worked many years for Bay Optical in Saratoga.

Susan is survived by the love of her life Michael and recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in June. She was the proud mother of her two sons and their beautiful wives. Patrick Riley and wife Heather live in Staten Island with their two sons Brady and Colby. Sean Riley and his wife Tanya live in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is survived by her sister MaryPat Ormsby and husband Tony of Lake Placid, and also leaves behind her sister-in-law Patricia and husband Philip Prespare who reside in Farmington, Connecticut. She is survived by nieces Christine Prespare of Columbus, Ohio, Suzanne Sinacori of Simsbury, Connecticut, and Jenny Enquist of Lake Placid. She is also survived by nephew Joseph Prespare of Burlington, Connecticut.

Susan loved to garden and was an excellent gourmet cook. She was reluctantly assisted in both ventures by Mike who slowly became her sous chef for their Friday “date night” dinners. She viewed everybody as a friend she hadn’t met yet. She had a beautiful smile and would talk to anybody who would listen. She touched many people’s lives with kindness and caring. She was noted for her keen sense of humor many times at the expense of her two sons. Through the years she enjoyed entertaining especially during August. Family was everything to Susan and she looked forward to holidays and special occasions. Her greatest enjoyment was to go on adventures with her two grandsons which included trips to Saratoga Spa Park and rides on the Holly Jolly Trolley that always ended with ice cream cones at Humpty Dumpty. She was proud to watch them grow into fine young men and see them participate in lacrosse and football.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, Aug. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at William J. Burke and Sons Funeral Home at 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (518-584-5373).
