Curtis Richard Bordeau

Curtis was born to Linda and Keith Bordeau on Sept. 17, 1999. He had two older siblings, Daniel and Matthew. He was a happy baby, younger brother growing up. He loved his pets, hanging with his friends, playing sports, fishing and video games. He was a good athlete, playing peewee hockey and little league baseball, and acquired a nickname “Curt Magurt.” He had a pretty normal childhood, loved by his parents and brothers, celebrating, laughing and enjoying life’s ups and downs.

In high school Curtis began to struggle with anxiety. He was a shy kid, but with counseling he seemed to overcome his anxiety issues and before we could blink, he was a graduating senior. Moving forward, Curtis started working full-time doing body work with his older brother. He seemed to love work, feeling proud and accomplished, and had a great work ethic, rarely missing a day.

Then, not sure how or why it started, but it never ended from there. The drugs took ahold and never let go. Before anyone knew or realized how serious his addiction was, it had already almost been a year of taking “benzos.” He could no longer work and no longer seemed to care about anything other than what was important to him. He no longer just slept, ate or could just be happy anymore, and he would not choose rehab. This decision was his to make; he was never ready to do it.

Over the past year, Curtis’ new friends weren’t really friends, just users, using him. Somehow, he developed this new sense of friendship through his own loneliness and helplessness. Curtis often spoke of wanting to change and get help, but couldn’t and wouldn’t commit to this decision knowing the drugs seemed to always win.

Curtis’ short life ended on Tuesday, July 19 2022. He was loved by brothers and parents; he will be missed dearly. Curtis is survived by his two parents, Linda Bordeau of Vermontville, Keith Bordeau of Bloomingdale, and his two older brothers, Daniel and Matthew Bordeau, both of Bloomingdale. He had several aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will not be a memorial service. We hope by sharing Curt’s struggles will raise awareness this epidemic can affect anyone. Thank you to all of the members of the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad for their response and efforts.
