Mary Jean Poirier

Mary Jean Poirier, age 78, formerly of Vermontville and currently of Tupper Lake, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2021 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Massena on Sept. 4, 1943, she was the daughter of Wallace and Mary (Duquette) Losey.

Mary Jean married the love of her life, Raymond Poirier, on Dec. 27, 1961 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake. Raymond predeceased her on March, 2015.

Mary was a lifelong resident and worked at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake for over 30 years until her retirement in 2007.

She is survived by two daughters, Tina Marie Merkle of Tupper Lake and Jill Marie Massey of Goldsboro, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Billy Lee Sexton, Stephen D. Massey, Dennis and Daniel Merkle, and Kimberly Massey; and two great grandchildren, Jayden Merkle and Ezra Merkle. She is also survived by one sister, Betty Richards of Norfolk; two brothers, James Losey of Rochester and Ronald Losey of Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Stephen.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 3 p.m. with Rev. Martin Cline and Monsignor C.J. McAvoy officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
