Mary L. Suplee

Mary L. Suplee, age 94 of Saranac Lake, Inlet, Rome, New York and Sarasota, Florida died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021 surrounded by her family at home.

Born Dec. 3, 1926 in Utica, she was the daughter of Wallace and Anna Schug Bristol. She resided in Utica before moving to Chadwicks, and graduated from Chadwicks High School in 1944. She went to the College of Saint Rose Cadet Nursing Program for her RN and graduated in 1947. Mary was married to Peter F. Suplee on Nov. 29, 1947 at St. Anthony’s Church in Chadwicks. Mary was employed at Rome Murphy Memorial Hospital for 35 years. She received her BSN degree from SUNY in 1982. Mary enjoyed substitute nursing at Camp Gorham YMCA Camp Eagle and Saranac Lake Central School District.

Mary retired from Rome Hospital in 1982 and spent seven months in Sarasota, Florida and 5 months in Inlet each year. She enjoyed golf, bridge, shuffleboard, traveling, painting, needlework, knitting and many other social activities with friends.

Mary especially enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is survived by four daughters Gayle (Peter) Lynch of New Canaan, Connecticut, Donna (Raymond) Dora of Saranac Lake, Mary Lou Scerra of Rome, New York, and Debra (Timothy) Raymond of Niantic, Connecticut, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Peter, and three brothers, Richard, Robert and Wallace Bristol.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021 at St. Anthony’s Church in Inlet. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Old Forge. Family and friends attending services are asked to please follow all COVID-19 recommendations including wearing masks and social distancing.
