Randy S. Preston

Randy S. Preston, 60, of Wilmington passed away Thursday, July 18, at his home after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Keene Valley on March 31, 1959, the son of Sydney and Mary Preston.

Randy was the supervisor of the town of Wilmington since 2008 and was the former head of the Essex County Board of Supervisors. He was also a member of the Wilmington Fire Department for over 40 years and served as chief for 14 years. He was a staunch proponent of his hometown and also for Essex County. Randy supported the restoration of the Whiteface Veterans Memorial Highway, the mountain bike trails in Wilmington, the conversion of the Frontier Town property and many other projects that enhanced his beloved town.

His sense of humor was well known, even in the darkest days of his illness.

Randy is survived by his wife Michelle and his children: Bryeanna Villani, Jacob, Jonah and Rose Burns, Renee (Tory) Youngs and Nicole Matthews; his mother Mary Preston and siblings Danny (Pammie) Preston, Diane (Robert) Kirby, Linda Preston and Alan (Lisa) Preston; his nieces and nephews: Cory Preston, Shannon Stanley, Jason Preston, Travis Preston, Michelle J. Preston and Kyle Kirby; as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews, including his little buddy Brantley. He is also survived by his best friend and partner in crime, Larry Gibbons.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 22 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Thwaits-Zaumetzer Funeral Home in AuSable Forks. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 23 at 11 a.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church in Wilmington.
