John C. Taylor Sr.

CANANDAIGUA — John C. Taylor Sr., 90, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 14, 2019.

John was born in Ogdensburg and was the son of Richard and Rose (Boyle) Taylor.

He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Ogdensburg, class of 1946. John was also a graduate of St. Lawrence State Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1953. He earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Syracuse University.

John worked as a registered nurse at the VA Medical Center in Canandaigua for 32 years, retiring in 1987.

He served with the US Army reserves for 22 years, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel.

John was a member of St. Mary’s Church. He enjoyed spending summers in the Adirondacks at Owl Pond.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beverly (Dacier) Taylor; five children: Kathleen (Keith) McIntosh, John Christopher (Betsy) Taylor, Jr., Stephen (Tania) Taylor, Mark (Shayla) Taylor and Peter Taylor; son-in-law, David Schinsing; 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Sr. Mary Christine Taylor, S.S.J.; sister-in-law, Theresa Taylor; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Susan Taylor; two grandchildren, Megan and Michael Christopher; seven siblings, James, William, Richard, Joseph and Michael Taylor, Anne LeBel and Sr. Roseanne Taylor, G.N.S.H.

His memorial mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18 at St. Bridget’s Church, 15 Church St., Bloomfield. A reception will immediately follow the mass at the home of Mark and Shayla Taylor at 3099 Bunker Hill Road, Clifton Springs, 14432.
