George P. Kubica

He was born in Little Falls on June 18, 1929 to George and Betty Kubica. Upon graduation from Little Falls High School, he attended Cornell University where he received a bachelor of science in biochemistry. He then attended the Universities of Michigan and Wisconsin, receiving his master’s degree and Ph.D. in microbiology, respectively.

While attending the University of Michigan, he met and married his lovely wife of 65 years, Beverly Smith.

George was a world renowned microbiologist working at the Centers for Disease Control, Atlanta, Georgia for 28 years culminating as director of the tuberculosis division and Trudeau Institute in Saranac Lake for five years in the Tuberculosis Division.

George was a wonderful, husband and father. He could be seen at little league, high school and college sporting events supporting his children. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, woodworking and drawing. He was often on the trout streams fly fishing, on the lake fishing or in the woods deer hunting or bird hunting.

He and Beverly enjoyed daily walks, and in the winter snow-shoeing. George had a great sense of humor and could tell the funniest jokes and stories with a straight face.

George is survived by his wife Beverly (Smith) Kubica, Cookeville, Tennessee; son Scott Kubica and daughter-in-law Laura Kubica of Spencer, Tennessee; daughter Kim (Kubica) Johnson and son-in-law Dave Johnson of Warner Robbins, Georgia; five grandchildren: Brett his wife Livia, Cody and Nicole Kubica, Trevor and Preston Johnson; and two great-grandchildren Ella and Lila Kubica.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Daniel Johnson.
