Elma Bouton Holway

Elma Bouton Holway was born in Saranac Lake on Jan. 26, 1934, and went home to the Lord on Aug. 22, 2018, at a nursing home near Oneonta, with most of her family by her side.

She graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1951, completed two years at Syracuse University and married James G. Holway. Elma eventually completed her Bachelor of Science degree in adult education. She enjoyed her teaching very much, helping people better their lives.

Some of her clients became loyal friends. A few arranged her celebration of life gathering held at the school where Elma taught for so many years. Before she retired, Elma was very active and involved with the Mount Vision Methodist Church. She was often seen at all of her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s games of sports.

Elma is survived by her husband James G. Holway; daughters Betsy Joy Holway, Cherylyn Dawn Greenier and Darcie Holway; brothers Alton and John F. Bouton; sister Betsy Bouton Pond of Saranac Lake; her nine granchildren; many great-grandchildren; cousins; nieces and nephews.
