Lawrence E. ‘Bummer’ Brown

Lawrence Earl “Bummer” Brown, 69, passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at Mercy Living Center where he resided for the past week.

Born March 4, 1945, in Tupper Lake, he was the son of Roy and Grace (Fellows) Brown.

Bummer attended Tupper Lake schools, where he participated in football, basketball and baseball. He enjoyed golf and bowling, belonging to several leagues over the years in addition to playing and coaching softball.

At an early age, he overcame a serious bout with rheumatic fever but went on to be an outstanding pitcher for Tupper Lake High School.

Bummer was employed by the village of Tupper Lake retiring in 1996.

On Oct. 17, 1987, he was married to Mariruth Carmichael, who survives him.

He is also survived by stepson Jason Trombley of East Point, Georgia, one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Susan Brown of Saratoga Springs, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sisters: Barbara LaMoy and Carol Renaud.

Calling hours are scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Holy Name Church in Tupper Lake. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery at a later date.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Lawrence “Bummer” Brown Sports Award being established at the Tupper Lake High School in care of the funeral home.
