Michael J. Conn

A native of Lake Placid, he also resided in Syracuse, Tupper Lake, Cadyville, Clintonville, Port Henry, Ticonderoga, Saranac Lake and most recently San Mateo, California.

Mike was a very gentle soul who touched many lives with his warm smile, sense of humor and all-around great spirit. Born with polio and Down syndrome, Mike’s favorite activities were swimming and eating, with ice cream at the top of the list.

He learned to swim at the Mirror Lake beach, and in the summers he spent more time there than the lifeguards. As a Special Olympian, he won many medals and qualified for the Nationals.

He worked for more than 25 years at Essex Industries in Mineville.

He is survived by his sister Mary Margaret Conn-Fitch and brother-in-law Kip Fitch of San Francisco, who lovingly included him in their lives, and five first cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Conn.

Burial will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery in Lake Placid next summer.
