Michael E. Gregory

Michael was born in Elizabethtown on July 31, 1956 to Lorie and Edward Gregory and lived in the town of Keene all his life. He graduated from Keene Central School in 1974. Michael was a good student and an exceptional athlete. He loved sports with his favorite being soccer.

Soon after graduating from high school, the dark cloud of mental illness blotted out much of the sunshine in his life. He carried on, though, living life simply, kindly and with great courage.

Michael left many friends with whom he chatted over coffee or Coke most every day at the Noonmark Diner, Stewart’s and the Baxter Mountain Tavern. Years ago, Michael became the caregiver to a stray cat around Stewart’s, which he fed daily, no matter what the weather. Michael loved all animals.

Surviving are his mother and best friend Lorie; sisters: Wendy Sheasby and Suzanne Preston; nieces: Heidi Sheasby and Elly Preston; and a nephew, Morgan Sheasby.

Michael was predeceased by his father, Edward Gregory.

All are invited to celebrate Michael’s life from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24 at “The Barn,” home of Sue and Seymour Preston in Keene Valley. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
