Frederick B. Burton

Frederick B. Burton, 61, died Friday, March 21, 2014 at his home in Keene Valley.

After being born in Frankfurt, Germany, he lived in New York his entire life. Before making Keene Valley his permanent home, he worked in the photography unit of the Daily News.

A lifelong lover of the Adirondacks, he was the youngest to become a 46er at the age of 11. He worked as a guide and camp cook at the Upper AuSable Lake, and later as a carpenter at the AuSable Club.

He was an avid reader and skier. He will be missed for his wit and intellect.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Mulligan of Glastonbury, Conn.; his niece, Kate Marshall, her husband Jon and son Ben of Arlington, Va.; and his niece Rachel Pickard, her husband Michael and daughters Emma and Julia of Gabriels.

He was predeceased by his parents, Hal and Henrietta Burton.

A graveside service will take place at the Norton Cemetery in Keene at a later date.
