Steven J. Boucher

Born Aug. 18, 1942, in Tupper Lake, he was the son of Wilbert and Theresa (Benjamin) Boucher. He married his high school sweetheart, Diane Boushie, on June 15, 1963, at Holy Name Church.

Following graduation in 1960, Steve enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was active duty from then until 1964. He was a radar specialist with Strategic Air Command based out of Plattsburgh Air Force Base. He went on to work for IBM in Burlington, Vt. after his discharge from the service.

In 1967, Steve and Diane moved back to Tupper Lake where he went to work for the New York State Police. He retired after 20 years in 1987.

After his time with the New York State Police, Steve opened the Wildwood Music store for a short time. Over the last several years, he worked as Code Enforcement Officer for the village of Tupper Lake, electrician for local building contractors, certified electrical inspector for Commonwealth Inspections, and building superintendant for Clough-Harbor Engineering firm. He retired completely in 2007.

During his high school years, Steve was an outstanding baseball pitcher, being scouted by the then New York Giants baseball farm team. He was also an avid and talented golfer and a member of the Tupper Lake Country Club for much of his life. The most memorable experiences of his life were his years playing country music with his friends and band, the Adirondack Playboys.

His final years, following the passing of his wife, Diane, were spent enjoying time with family and his “borrowed companion,” Noah.

He is survived by three children: a daughter, Tammy Boucher, a son, James Boucher, of Tupper Lake, and a daughter, Darcy Westover and her husband Dean of St. Albans, Vt.; a brother, Jeffery Boucher of Tupper Lake; his mother Theresa Boucher, of Tupper Lake; and two grandchildren, Sarah Boucher, of Ulster Park and Dorran Boucher of Tupper Lake.

He was predeceased by his wife, Diane, and his father, Wilbert.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6 with a brief service at 5 p.m. at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper?Lake. Burial will occur in the spring.
