May V. M. ‘Maddie’ (LaFrance) LaFountain

May Vivian Madeline “Maddie” (LaFrance) LaFountain, surrounded by family, was called home to the Lord Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014.

Maddie was born in Tupper Lake on July 22, 1935, to Lionel and Henrietta (LeRoux) LaFrance. She grew up in Tupper Lake with her brothers and sisters Theresa, Rollande, John, Rhea, Lena, Simone, Robert, Andrew, Edgar, Sally and Margaret.

Maddie married the boy across the street, Arthur Kenneth LaFountain, on May 29, 1954. Things were not quiet for long as their home was soon blessed with the arrival of Keith, Pam, Julie, Linda, Elaine, David and Kirk. Maddie and Ken were proud of their children as they each grew to have a family of their own, including 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The family name radiated from Cranberry Lake to East Palmyra to the Florida Keys to Seattle, Wash.

Maddie made friends where ever she went and enjoyed visiting with them whether it was at her dining room table, Ralphies, The Stone Manor or just hoping to holler BINGO! The sound of music in the air meant Maddie and her family would be found on the dance floor. Maddie was a woman of strong faith, getting her through times of hardship. She will be missed and remembered fondly by all those who knew and loved her.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday , Feb. 24 at the St. Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake.

Friends will be welcomed at the Cranberry Lake Fire Department at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24 for a time of remembrance and a celebration of her life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 435, East Henrietta Road, Rochester, NY 14620, or online at www.alz.org/rochesterny/in_my_community_donate.asp.
