Lillian Bloch

It is with great sadness that the family of Lillian Bloch marks her passing, on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at home in Montreal.

Lillian was born on Aug. 7, 1921, in Shawinigan Falls, Quebec. She attended classes at McGill University’s Bachelor of Commerce Program while working full-time for Blue Cross and then for Percy Caplan Realty. She was director of the Snowdon branch of Le Clinique de Controle de Poids Permanente and part-time rental agent at LaCite. She was the Registrar at The Mary Hue Hairdressing Institute, where she enrolled thousands of Quebec’s teenagers who were at high risk of dropping out of school. Prior to that, Lillian had an extremely successful entrepreneurial career buying, building, and selling a series of hair dressing salons located in shopping centers throughout the island of Montreal.

Lillian was routinely honored as Outstanding Salesperson of the Year in each of the posts she held throughout her many years in Industry. During her retirement, Lillian bought and sold real estate in Canada and in the United States.

As her business colleagues would frequently note, “Lillian understood people, of all walks of life. She was very devoted to her family, but in business she worked hard, was very smart, and she thrived on challenge like no one else.”

Lillian’s life reflects her love of family and her generosity of spirit, hard work, empathy, respect, intelligence and commitment to her friends, clients and colleagues.

She will be very much missed by her children, Jules Bloch and his wife Barbara Falk, Penny Bloch and her husband Peter Rorlick; her grandchildren: Alannah Bloch and Luke Rorlick; her sister Sally Tessler (nee Rishikof) and her son Abbey Neidik, with whom she generously opened her home, his wife Irene Angelico and their son Toben Neidik. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Marjorie (Margie) Rishikof (nee Cryer) and her children, Barry Rishikof, Norman Rishikof and Harvey Rishikof and her sister-in-law Micheline (Mimi) Rishikof and her children, Stefan Rishikof, David Rishikof, Brian Rishikof and Andrew Rishikof and her nephew Allan Rishikoff and her niece Barbara Snyder (nee Rishikoff), as well as by her niece Irene Finkelstein (ne Heimbach), and her nephew Jeff Bloch.
