Benjamin G. Demars

Benjamin G. Demars, 85, of Tupper Lake passed away, Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 at Mercy Living Center where he had resided for the past 18 months. Born June 18, 1928 in Tupper Lake, he was the son of Benjamin J. and Malvina (LaBarge) Demars. Ben graduated from local schools and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served during World War II from 1946 to 1948.

He returned to Tupper lake and was employed at the O.W.D. corp. He later went on to work at Sunmount VA and then Sunmount D.D.S.O., retiring as a pharmacist tech in 1992. In 1951, he married the former Elizabeth Jessie at Holy Name Church. She pre-deceased him in 1999.

Ben enjoyed woodcarving and belonged to the Woodcarvers Association, he also loved photography and in the 1970s coached youth hockey.

He is survived by one son, Michael and his wife Rhonda; son-in-law Barry Hall; five grandchildren: Matthew Dana, Elizabeth and Ben Demars, Eric and Rebecca Hall; and one great-grandchild, Madison.

He was predeceased by his wife, a daughter, Kathleen Hall and a sister Elizabeth Jessie.

Calling hours are scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18 with a funeral service at 6 p.m. at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery in May.
