Emil F. Miskovsky

Emil Frederick Miskovsky, M.D., MBA, 82, passed away June 4, 2013, at St John’s Mercy Medical Center.

He grew up in Passaic, N.J., the oldest of eight children of Emil and Anna Miskovsky, and graduated in 1949 from Passaic High School, where he excelled in football.

He earned a scholarship and graduated with a dual major in chemistry and zoology from the University of Arkansas, followed by medical school and post graduate training in internal medicine and both cardiology and pulmonology at Georgetown University.

While in Washington, D.C., he met the love of his life and future wife Mary Shea. They were married at St. Francis Xavier in Washington, D.C., and they remained devotedly active in the Catholic faith throughout their lives together, including the parishes of St. Anselm’s and Annunziata, as well as humble members of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher.

He served in the United States Air Force as a physician, stationed at Scott Air Force Base. He entered private practice in St. Louis at DePaul and St. John’s Hospitals and remained on the teaching faculty of St. Louis University Medical School for many years.

He reveled in serving his medical colleagues in the roles of president of the medical staff and eventually Vice President of Medical Affairs at DePaul Hospital, during which time he earned an MBA from Washington University. Following 35 years of medical practice, he became the medical director at Cigna Healthcare and continued as a case consultant until his death.

The pride of his life was his six children and 11 grandchildren. Regular family reunions in the Adirondacks in Wilmington, hunting and fishing trips throughout the United States, and golf outings served to bind the family together. He was renowned for his easy smile, his sincere interest in the happiness of others, his determined desire to learn and grow, and his well balanced wisdom on nearly any matter. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years Mary Elizabeth Miskovsky; children: Emil Peter Miskovsky, Anna Miskovsky, Laura Sparks, Michael Miskovsky, Mary Buss, and Christopher Miskovsky, as well as their spouses and children. He is additionally survived by his siblings: Nicholas Miskovsky, Joan Potosnak, Delores Miskovsky, and John Miskovsky and their respective spouses and children.

The memorial Mass will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at St. Margaret’s Church, Route 86, Wilmington, NY, 12997.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Emil F. and Lyz Miskovsky Tribute Fund at St. Louis Priory School, 500 S. Mason Road, St Louis, MO 63141.
