Plattsburgh $1 movie and Tykes Tuesdays

How about some popcorn with the $1 movie? Once again, the Regal Champlain Cinema in Plattsburgh is hosting its Summer Movie Express Festival and yes, it is only a buck.

I understand that we could probably see all these showings at our house, sitting in the front of the television. I love going to the movies. It really is about the experience. I also never feel compelled to clean the theatre.

These second-run films are a mid-morning fiesta with families pondering over such tough decisions as should they see the $1 G or PG rated film. Parents, radiating some power over their pocketbooks, can either mosey on up to the snack bar to spend their movie savings or skip past the counter relishing one-and-a-half hours of entertainment and air conditioning for less than a movie rental.

The weekly fare is as follows:

-July 16-17: “Smallfoot” or “Secret Life of Pets”

-July 23-24: “The Lego Movie” or “Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie,”

-July 30-31: “Sing” or “How to Train Your Dragon 2”

-Aug. 6-7: “Penguins of Madagascar” or “Boss Baby”

-Aug. 13-14: “Kung Fu Panda 3” or “The Lego Ninjago Movie”

-Aug. 20-21: “Trolls” or “Minions”

-Aug. 27-28: “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Storks.”

The two movie choices start at 10 a.m. and are hosted on a first-come, first-served basis. We’ve never noticed that seating is an issue. Both movies play on each of the offered Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Tuesday is a busy day at the mall. For children (12 and under) Tykes Tuesday schedules an hour of free activities. From 1 to 2 p.m., paper crafts, cupcake decorating, a pretzel party and a bird show are just a few of the free events.

It’s nice to have this option for those raining errand days or just a place to escape from the heat of the day. My kids always just enjoyed watching the film. I don’t think they put too much thought into it. So, for something cheap to do while in Plattsburgh, go to the movies every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. through Aug. 28 at the Champlain Centre Mall in Plattsburgh.

See you at the movies!
