Supporting free kids’ art classes with an ‘80s twist

There is a saying that everything comes back and that seems to include some questionable fashion choices and alot of hairspray. This time the Saranac Lake Elks Club is providing the ‘big hair, don’t care” place with an 80s Dance Party. Though I may not need a good reason to dress up for a party, this particular tribute to the 80s is helping to raise funds for BluSeed Studios free children’s art classes.

For the second year, BluSeed has offered all area students free art classes during the two-week school holiday. This year hundreds of students from kindergarten through high school stopped by BluSeed to make and create art. To help expand the program, the Elk’s Club is generously offering the funds raised at the door to support youth activities. So, if you can’t shop your own closet for a fabulous outfit, then there are some amazing area thrift stores that are displaying sequins mini shirts and acid-washed jeans.

A trip to my own closet will yield of few classic shoulder-padded jackets. I did have a moment of silence when I fully grasped the fact that my daughter was using my closet as her dress-up bin. No more princess outfits, but legwarmers, big hoops, and belted jackets are on her mind. Even though I lived through the 80s, my child feels that my costume can always use a bit more bling. Again, I lived through the ’80s. It is not my costume, but a trip down memory lane. I appreciate the help, but I do have some firsthand knowledge. Good grief. Now I know how my mother felt when I paraded around in a sweater set and poodle skirt.

The Back to the 80s Party will take place at the Saranac Lake Elks Lodge, 30 Bloomingdale Ave on Saturday, June 8 from 6 to 10 p.m. The over 21+ party will have a happy hour from 6 to 7 p.m. with music starting at 7 p.m. There will be a DJ, snacks, and a cash bar. The $5 entry and any donations will be used to support youth activities. BluSeed Studios is providing some raffle prizes including best costume. Just stop by for a few moments or stay for the whole time. We can reminisce while moonwalking through clouds of Aqua Net. Enjoy!t
