BETA to host Backcountry Film Festival

LAKE PLACID — The Barkeater Trails Alliance is hosting the Backcountry Film Festival at the North Country School and Camp Treetops Performing Arts Center on Jan. 10 from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
The film festival includes 10 short films that celebrate the spirit of human-powered winter recreation. Activities featured in the films include ski touring, Nordic skating, backcountry skiing, surfing and more. Topics include independence, family, art, conservation, community and exploration.
Doors open for a happy hour at 5:30 p.m. with snacks and beverages provided. Films begin at 6:30 p.m. There will be a brief intermission. Films end at 9 p.m.
Local organizations including the Adirondack Community Avalanche Project, North Country Kneedroppers, and Adirondack Powder Skiers Association will be available before the films begin to discuss their work in the arena of human-powered winter recreation in the Adirondacks.
