Tupper Arts presents film ‘Viva Verdi!’ on Nov. 2
TUPPER LAKE — The Adirondack State Theater will proudly partner with this year’s Lake Placid Film Festival when Tupper Arts hosts a screening at the theater of the film Viva Verdi! on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 4 p.m in Tupper Lake.
The film offers an intimate glimpse into the lives of the celebrated opera singers and musicians currently living out their “third act” while mentoring international music students who live among them at Milan’s unique retirement home, Casa Verdi, built by composer Giuseppe Verdi in 1896.
The screening will be attended by the film’s director, Yvonne Russo, who will be taking part in a discussion following the film. The event will be hosted by the theater’s new Director of Performing Arts, George Cordes, whose career as an operatic bass-baritone included many performances of Verdi roles. Tickets and more information are now available online at the theater’s website, adirondackstatetheater.org. The Adirondack State Theater is located at 100 Park Street, Tupper Lake.
This feature documentary follows the lives of the distinguished masters in residence at Casa Verdi, shining a spotlight on Verdi’s legacy that is still alive and thriving 100 years later. From these ‘guests of Verdi’ — aged 77 to 107 and comprised of international opera singers, ballet dancers, musicians, conductors and composers — we hear an extraordinary array of personal and professional stories.
These are filled with music, magic and passion, and ultimately learn why Verdi called this remarkable home his “best work”. His generous approach in caring for his colleagues in art, and the energy from the intergenerational exchange that permeates the house, make Casa Verdi as forward-thinking now as it was then.
