Lake Placid fire chief suspended 30 days

Department cited a driving complaint as the cause of suspension

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department has suspended Chief Mike St. Louis following a driving complaint. St. Louis will be suspended for 30 days, First Assistant Chief Jen Marshall confirmed.

Marshall said the department received a written complaint related to one of the its driving policies. After the department’s officers reviewed the bylaws and policies, they determined a suspension for St. Louis was warranted.

“This is consistent in how we would handle it with any other member,” she said. “It’s important that we follow all the rules, our chief included. We hold our officers to a high standard, as I’m sure the community would both expect and appreciate.”

The suspension took effect Monday, Aug. 25 and will last 30 days. After that period is up, Marshall said St. Louis will resume his duties.

Marshall said their membership and response to emergency calls continues to be strong.

“We look forward to moving past this and being stronger because of it,” she said.

St. Louis did not respond to a request for comment.
