Black moon bliss

Jim Mize of Williamsville captured this photo of the night sky from Hoel Pond late Thursday night, Aug. 21, in Santa Clara, near Saranac Lake. Mize said the late night sky offered a double treat for stargazers — a black moon with clear skies and the final chance to catch the perseid meteor shower. He said the sky was exceptionally dark, the Milky Way extremely visible and the plethora of shooting stars reflecting from the ponds was one for the record books. (Provided photo — Jim Mize)
