Sinfonietta’s final park, jazz concerts of the season are next week

LAKE PLACID — The season’s last summer 2025 concert by the Lake Placid Sinfonietta opens with light classical and pops tunes on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Paul White Memorial Shell at Mid’s Park in downtown Lake Placid.

The concert, “En Plein Air,” is free, family-friendly, open to the public and will last about one hour. Limited seating is available in the park, so patrons are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair to sit on.

If weather does not allow an outdoor performance, the concert will be moved to St. Agnes Church on Saranac Avenue at 7:15 p.m. Announcements of a change in location will be posted by 5 p.m. on Facebook or at 518-523-2051.

The orchestra concludes its season on Sunday, Aug. 17, with “All That Jazz,” featuring Stephenson and Gershwin. The orchestra will return next July for its 2026 season.

The program celebrates the influence of jazz on 20th-century music, opening with James Stephenson’s “Printemps,” a vibrant and lyrical work that hints at modern innovation. Jean Absil’s “Petite Suite” adds a jazzy flair, paving the way for Jacques Ibert’s “Concertino da Camera,” a saxophone showcase featuring Dan Gordon. Darius Milhaud’s “La Cration du Monde” transports the audience to the soulful heart of early jazz, weaving its roots into an orchestral tapestry. The concert reaches its pinnacle with George Gershwin’s iconic “Rhapsody in Blue”, a masterful blend of jazz and classical traditions, brought to life by Maestro Stuart Malina at the piano.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts at 17 Algonquin Ave. Tickets are available online at lakeplacidsinfonietta.org/concerts2025 or by calling the LPCA box office at 518-523-2512.

Starting at $3.92/week.
