Northern Lights expands preschool program this fall

SARANAC LAKE — Northern Lights Guardianship, Inc. is expanding its early childhood education services with the opening of a second preschool classroom for children ages 3 to 5, beginning this fall. The expansion allows the non-profit to increase preschool enrollment and reduce class sizes for local families.

“The families in our community deserve to have a choice for where their young children spend their early years, especially since these are the most foundational years of their lives,” Northern Lights Director Polly Kelting said. “By adding a second preschool classroom, we welcome more children into a nurturing, play-based environment where they explore, grow and develop a deep connection to nature and relationships with each other.”

Northern Lights’ preschool program is rooted in rhythm and repetition, fostering a warm, home-like environment where children feel secure and confident. Inspired by the Waldorf approach, the curriculum emphasizes hands-on experience, imagination, creativity and outdoor learning. Children engage in activities such as bread baking, nature crafts, storytelling, gardening and practical outdoor work, all designed to support whole-child development — hands, heart and mind.

“This expansion reflects our commitment to meeting the needs of families in Saranac Lake and the surrounding area,” Board President Seth Jones said. “We are dedicated to ensuring that every child in our care receives personal attention, a strong educational foundation, and the chance to develop into a capable, compassionate member of the community.”

Starting at $3.92/week.
