Authentic Adirondackers sought for roles in film

Untitled project boasts award-winning director, ‘A-list actor’

SARANAC LAKE — Casting for a feature film set in the Adirondacks is underway, with a casting director putting out a call for locals with any level of acting experience to audition for speaking and background roles for the film, with plans to start shooting in the fall.

The casting director cannot share much about the film, currently just referred to as “Untitled Adirondacks Film,” but is teasing information, such as having a director who has “won some of the biggest awards for their directing” and starring an unnamed “A-list actor.”

“Let’s just say you’d probably recognize them,” a press release states.

Casting Director Charlotte Arnoux is leading the “street casting” for the movie, seeking out people with or without acting experience for speaking roles and background roles.

“The director is dedicated to the authentic portrayal of the community and therefore is interested in casting local residents,” according to Arnoux’s website. “First time actors bring with them an authenticity and naturalism that helps create the world of a film.”

Casting Assistant Kyle Stone said the open call auditions in Keene Valley, Plattsburgh, Keeseville, Schroon Lake and Burlington, Vermont have all filled up. There were around 50 slots at each open call and they filled up fast, he said. Interested people can still audition virtually for the next few weeks by applying at tinyurl.com/3dr7bba3.

Stone said they’ve received 200 video auditions so far, with a goal of 500.

The producers are seeking people of all ages, genders and ethnicities. Stone said they are looking for lumberjacks, high school students, barbers and Adirondackers — mostly between teenagers and retirees.

If cast, actors will be paid union rates — from $260 to $1,246 per day, depending on the role.

Most of the roles will require just one day of shooting.

“Days are long, 12 hours usually, and you cannot come late or leave early,” according to Arnoux’s website.

Stone said he could not list the awards the director has won, because it could give clues as to who it is. He did say the director is interested in the Adirondack region, and that his past work touched on it before.

Questions for Arnoux or Stone can be sent to adirondacksfilm@gmail.com.

Arnoux has done casting for films like “The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed” (2023) and Smoking Tigers (2023), the Netflix show “Grand Army” (2020) and numerous short films.

Starting at $19.00/week.
