Tupper Lake GOP caucuses are announced

TUPPER LAKE — The Republican Party here will hold caucuses on Monday, June 30 to choose its slate of candidates for village and town positions up for election in November. They will take place at the Tupper Lake Emergency Services building, located at 21 Santa Clara Ave.

The action gets underway at 6 p.m. with a village-only caucus. The positions up for election include the mayor, justice and two trustee positions, currently held by Leon LeBlanc and David “Haji” Maroun. Village Mayor Mary Fontana said she intends to run for reelection, stating that she would like to serve one more term “to see a few things through.”

The mayor and trustee offices up for election carry two-year terms. While the village justice is typically a four-year term, Village Justice Chris Delair retired earlier this year, creating an open position for voters to fill with two years left on that term.

At 6:30 p.m., the town-wide GOP caucus is slated to begin. Voters will select candidates for the supervisor, currently held by Rickey Dattola, and two council positions, currently held by Rick Donah and John Gillis. The supervisor and council positions all carry four-year terms.

The caucuses are being chaired by Crystal Boucher, who was elected to the town board in 2023. In order to vote in the caucuses, people must be registered Republicans.

Starting at $19.00/week.
