SARANAC LAKE — Saranac Lake High School seniors Jake Kollmer and Dustin Burke made an entrance with some horsepower on the last day of classes Friday, riding in on a red and white 1942 Ford 2N tractor and waving red and white Red Storm flags to celebrate the end of their hard work here.

Fellow students getting dropped off on Friday, which was also graduation day, shouted and gawked at the scene the two created as they circled the road in front of the building, Kollmer at the wheel and Burke on a trailer waving two big flags.

Kollmer said he’s wanted to ride the tractor his grandfather restored to school for years now. He and Burke said their last day of school, the last chance to do so, was as good a day as any.

He rode the tractor from his house 2.5 miles away. Burke brought the trailer, a horse trailer they jury rigged to the back of the tractor.

When the bell rang for the start of class, the two parked the farm equipment in the grass and headed inside for their last day at SLHS.

Starting at $19.00/week.
