Reading and hiking

Shortly after reading Kate Messner’s “The Trouble with Heroes,” Saranac Lake middle school sixth graders got to meet the author herself at Dewey Mountain on Tuesday. Messner is a New York Times bestselling author of over 70 children’s books who resides on Lake Champlain. She shared insights into her novel about a boy’s journey to healing through climbing the Adirondack High Peaks. She gave a book talk, answered student questions, signed books and even joined students for a hike to the top of Dewey. The sixth grade team thanked Messner for such a memorable day and to the town of Harrietstown for the use of Dewey Mountain Lodge. (Provided photo — Karen Miemis)
