Lake Placid man charged with allegedly hitting child in Franklin

FRANKLIN — State Police charged a Lake Placid man with endangering the welfare of a child last week after allegedly hitting a child.

John C. Piper, 56, of Lake Placid, was arrested on June 17 at 3:28 p.m. after New York State Police responded to a report of an assault on Swinyer Road.

“The investigation revealed that when the victim returned home, Piper began verbally abusing them and aggressively approached them,” State Police spokeswoman Brandi Ashley said. “As Piper continued to pursue the victim, the victim attempted to defend themselves. During the altercation, a child was present, and Piper struck the child, causing the child to fall to the ground.”

Police said Piper was processed at the State Police barracks in Ray Brook and arraigned in Franklin Town Court and released on his own recognizance.

Starting at $19.00/week.
