Essex County primary elections today
Franklin County caucuses planned in coming weeks
Primary elections in Essex County are taking place today, with contested races for a number of town seats in Wilmington, Willsboro, Elizabethtown, Ticonderoga and North Hudson. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 9 p.m.
There are six Republican primary elections in Essex County — for Wilmington’s highway superintendent, Willsboro’s supervisor, Elizabethtown’s town clerk/tax collector, North Hudson’s town council member and town justice and Ticonderoga’s town justice.
The highway superintendent race in Wilmington is a hotly contested one — with three Republicans on the ballot for the position: incumbent Louis Adragna, Cameron Grady and Darren Lawrence.

Voting in Wilmington will take place at the Wilmington Community Center at 7 Community Center Circle.
In Willsboro, incumbent Shaun Gillilland and challenger Darren P. Dickerson, both Republicans, are running to lead the town and represent it on the county’s board of legislators.
Voting in Willsboro will take place at the Willsboro Visitor Center at 3743 Main St.
Essex County Deputy Democratic Commissioner Jennifer Fifield said nine people voted early in the past week, and 52 people had absentee or early mail voted as of 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

Franklin County does not have any primaries for local-level elections this year. Town political parties are scheduling caucuses in the coming weeks, where registered members of the two major political parties will be able to select their candidates for a variety of local positions to run in the Nov. 4 general election.
Harrietstown Republicans will caucus on Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. in the Harrietstown Town Hall.
Harrietstown Democrats will caucus on July 8 at 6 p.m. in the Harrietstown Town Hall.
Tupper Lake Republicans are caucusing on June 30 at the Emergency Services Building, at 6 p.m. for the village and 6:30 for the town. Franklin County Republican Commissioner Tracy Sparks said there is no organized Democratic party in this town that she has heard of.
Brighton Democrats will caucus on July 8 at the Brighton Town Hall. Sparks said there is no organized Republican party in this town that she has heard of.
Franklin Democrats caucused last week on June 17. The Enterprise will report on results from this caucus at a later date. Sparks said there is no organized Republican party in this town that she has heard of.
Sparks said the last day to file to hold a caucus is June 24th at 5 p.m. At least 10 days of notice must be given to the county before a caucus is held.
