CHAZY — A teenager is dead following a motor vehicle collision on Lake Shore Road on Friday afternoon, State Police said.

Police said they responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident in the vicinity of 1547 Lake Shore Road at approximately 12:07 p.m. Friday. Police said an investigation revealed Kennedy C. Columbus, 18, of Chazy, was traveling west on Lake Shore Road when a tree fell from the north shoulder of the roadway and struck her vehicle, a 2024 Ford Bronco.

Police said Columbus’ vehicle overturned and struck a utility pole, which caused the power lines to disconnect. Police said Columbus was pronounced dead on scene.

Columbus was the only occupant in the vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing.

Columbus, a senior at Chazy Central Rural School, was a standout pitcher on the softball team. In April, she had 14 strikeouts in a game against Boquet Valley.

Columbus was set to graduate next week.
