Tupper town, school boards meeting tonight
TUPPER LAKE — It’s a jam-packed schedule this evening for the local and school governments here.
The Tupper Lake Town Board and Tupper Lake Central School District’s Board of Education are both holding public hearings and regular meetings, each with big-picture agenda items. For the town, those include water and sewer improvement projects. For the school, that includes its 2025-26 budget.

The action gets underway at the town hall at 5 p.m. as the town board is slated to open a public hearing on the proposed improvement projects to Water District No. 1 and Sewer District No. 1. The public hearing on the proposed water district improvements — which carry a maximum estimated cost of $8,900,000 — is first on the agenda.
That’s expected to be followed by a separate public hearing for the proposed sewer district improvements — which carry a maximum estimated cost of $4,200,000, according to the town’s public hearing notices, which add that in both instances, grant funds may be received in connection to each project, though the notices do not provide an estimate for how much is expected.
The sign-up sheet in the agenda provides a 3-minute speaking time for each person who wishes to address the matters. After the public hearings, the town board’s regular meeting is expected to begin. That portion of the meeting is scheduled to begin with two personal appearances. The first of which is from Jere Tatich and the second is from Stephen Jellie.
Tatich is a registered landscape architect with the firm EDR. He is expected to provide an update on the Tupper Lake Train Station Landscape Design Project. Jellie is a Tupper Lake resident who owns and operates Larkin’s Junction Depot, a downtown convenience shop and gas station. Jellie is expected to speak on concerns about blighted property in the area, tax assessment and the unity of local government, according to the agenda.
There will then be an additional period for public comment before the town establishes the agenda, votes on approving minutes from April 14, and audited vouchers. The board is then scheduled to then hear monthly department and committee reports, and take up a slate of new business items. The last item on the agenda, before adjourning, is executive session.

TLCSD is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. for a public budget hearing and regular meeting to follow. Both will take place at the L.P. Quinn Elementary School library.
The district is asking voters to approve a nearly $22 million annual budget that carries a 3.08% increase in taxes — which is the tax cap — from last year. A more detailed article on TLCSD’s budget is available at tinyurl.com/4brevext.
The budget vote is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20 at the Middle-High School. Following today’s budget hearing, the board will begin its regular meeting, also at the L.P. Quinn library. To view the agenda, visit tinyurl.com/4brevext.
