Rondeau, Parrow win contested AuSable Valley school elections

Three relelected to board and school budget passes

CLINTONVILLE — Voters in the AuSable Valley Central School District approved a $39.2 million budget for the coming school year on Tuesday, and elected three incumbents and two newcomers to fill five vacant board of education seats, ousting the board president and allowing an appointed board member to fill out the rest of his term.

The budget passed with 67% of the vote, 565-278.

Incumbent board members Scott Bombard and Jason Fuller each ran for reelection unopposed and won three-year terms. Fuller gathered 632 votes and Bombard got 628.

Margaret Rondeau challenged incumbent board President Shannon Stanley and won 425-347 to earn a three-year term. Stanley had been the president, but that does not mean Rondeau will be president. The board elects a president after their swearing in at a meeting in June.

Kenneth Bruno Jr., was appointed to finish out former board member Jenna Beauregard’s term when she moved out of the area. On Tuesday, he ran for the remaining two-year term and won unopposed.

Former board member Amanda Whisher also vacated her seat with one year left in her term. Jason Parrow won election for this seat over Bradford Hanley 475-289.

Budget

The budget for the 2025-26 school year will be $39,185,850. This budget is an increase of 3.36% from last year, and will be beneath the tax cap.

The estimated tax levy for the coming year will be about $16,763,000, a $578,000, 3.57%, increase from last year’s levy of $16,185,000. The state’s tax cap for the district for the coming year was 3.58%.

Tax rates will be around $12.98 per $1,000 in assessed value, according to the district office, so someone with a home assessed at $300,000 in AVCSD would pay around $3,894 in school taxes. This figure is an estimate until it is finalized in August, and rates will vary between each of the nine towns in the district.

The tax levy makes up about 43% of the school’s budget. Another 34% or so is expected from state funds. The school typically receives between $1 million to $2 million from the federal government, mainly Title, IDEA and Pre-K grants.
