River, reel and raffle: film fest to highlight Boothe River Park
SARANAC LAKE — The Friends of the Boothe River Park are hosting an evening of film, fun and local flavor to highlight the Boothe River Park Project — Saranac Lake’s very own river revitalization and whitewater feature initiative. The event will take place on Saturday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Garagery in Saranac Lake.
More than a list of films, this a chance for paddlers, nature lovers and curious locals to connect, get inspired and support a transformational project.
This gathering will feature a curated lineup of short films themed around paddling, rivers and environmental stewardship. Attendees will also have the chance to win a brand-new NRS drysuit in a special event raffle.
“We’re thrilled to bring people together to celebrate the spirit of this project,” said Scott McKim, president of the Boothe River Park Friends. “The Boothe River Park Project is about so much more than a river feature — it’s about reconnecting the community to our river, restoring habitat, creating new recreation opportunities, and supporting downtown revitalization in Saranac Lake.”
The Boothe River Park Project near the state Route 3 La Pan Bridge will enhance a stretch of the Saranac River with a low-impact whitewater feature designed for paddlers of all skill levels — from seasoned kayakers to tubers and SUP enthusiasts. Alongside recreation, the project emphasizes environmental restoration, safe access and sustainable development, all while preserving the natural beauty and ecological function of the river.
“The Saranac River runs right through our village, yet for many, it remains out of sight and out of mind,” McKim said. “This project brings the river into the heart of our community in a playful, purposeful way–and events like this one are a reminder that rivers connect us all.”
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. at The Garagery and the show will start at 7 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 before the event, or $20 at the door if seats are still available. Golden Tickets are $50 before the event, or $60 at the door, which includes a raffle ticket for the drysuit. Tickets are available at tinyurl.com/2cpub8v2.
