Lake Placid Film Fest to feature local legends this weekend
LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Film Festival will be kicking off its 23rd season on Thursday, featuring new collaborations and a few films set very close to home.
The festival will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the film, “Miracle,” which chronicles the famous victory of the U.S. men’s hockey team at the 1980 Olympic Winter Games. Buzz Schneider, a member of the Olympic team who scored the first goal against the Soviet Union during the iconic game, will be in attendance. The film will be shown twice at the Palace Theatre, once at 7 p.m. on Nov. 7 and again at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9.
A film about Lake Placid native and photographer, “Nathan Farb and the Cold War,” by director Nathaniel Knop will make its North American debut at the festival. Both Farb and Knop will be there for a Q&A session after the film, which will show at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10 at the Palace Theatre. Farb will also be signing posters at the theater, with proceeds going to Adirondack Film.
“Nathan is an iconic member of this community and I would encourage the entire town to show out to that,” said Gary Smith, chair of the Adirondack Film board. “Talking to Nathan and hearing from him, it’s about as exciting as it gets for somebody that represents this area worldwide.”
New this year will be an extra opportunity to interact with some of the filmmakers and artists-in-residence at the opening night party, which starts at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the High Peaks Resort. They will show trailers of all the feature films and there will be a cash bar. The party is free and open to the public.
The full schedule is at adirondackfilm.org. The festival runs through Sunday.
