LAKE PLACID — Some elevations above 4,000 feet received up to a foot of snow in spots by Wednesday as persistent snow showers associated with a low pressure system that became stalled over eastern Canada were slow to ease. Temperatures remained just above freezing during most of the event around the area’s population centers, preventing the snow from sticking.

High pressure finally pushed the precipitation out by Wednesday evening, resulting in abundant sunshine by the end of the week. Pleasant weather is expected to last over the weekend and into the beginning of next week, with high temperatures running 10 to 20 degrees above average for this time of year. The mercury could make a run at 70 degrees on Tuesday for much of the area — which is forecast to be the warmest day of the week — before dipping back into the 40s on Thursday and 50s later in the week.

The National Weather Service predicts areas of frost before 9 a.m. in the Tri-Lakes. Otherwise, it should be sunny with a high near 63, with patchy frost overnight after 4 a.m. and clear skies with a low around 30.

Starting at $4.75/week.
