‘The Cure: An Adirondack Story’ to tour Sept 21-28
BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKE — The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts presents the world premiere play “The Cure: An Adirondack Story” by Canton playwright Frederic Glover, featuring a cast and crew from across the North Country.
The show will run from Sept. 21 to 28, opening at the Arts Center and touring to venues across the Adirondacks as the final production of the 2024 ADK LAKES Theatre Festival.
Set during the summer of 1936 and earlier, “The Cure: An Adirondack Story” spotlights events both fictional and historical in Saranac Lake. Margaret, a writer from New York City, is seeking “the cure” for her case of tuberculosis at the famous Saranac Lake sanatorium. Her story intertwines with the life and struggles of Dr. Edward L. Trudeau, a driven, deeply compassionate man who devoted himself to finding a cure for the dreaded disease in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The stories of Margaret and Dr. Trudeau combine to celebrate the importance of community in healing and the many sides of the natural world while emphasizing the struggle to transcend a deadly pandemic.
The production opens at the Arts Center in Blue Mountain Lake at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, followed by performances at View Arts Center in Old Forge at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22; Tupper Lake Middle High School in Tupper Lake at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24; Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26; and Tannery Pond Center in North Creek at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28.
