Children’s concert at Will Rogers is next weekend
SARANAC LAKE — Ohio children’s performer Joanie Whittaker performs at Saranac Village at Will Rogers on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 2 p.m.
Whittaker is a Cincinnati entertainer and musician. In 2018 she released her second album, “When the Sun Shines,” which soon won the prestigious Parents’ Choice Award. She hopes to instill in her audiences an understanding of what music can bring to their lives, while demonstrating the value of community. According to the artist, she gets to do this in a sometimes silly, sometimes poignant, but always fun and relatable way.
The value of community is a two-way street, and this time it landed Saranac Village at Will Rogers’ Assistant Director of Activities Adrien Vlach the children’s music program he was looking for. Local musician and entrepreneur Shamim Allen made the referral during a chance encounter with a group of Will Rogers residents walking at Moody Pond. Whittaker will be vacationing in the area, but had no plans to perform until Allen made the connection. Whittaker loves that some of her audience will be retirees, and said that her shows appeal to kids of all ages and the adults who accompany them.
Saranac Village at Will Rogers is accessible. Light refreshments will be available. Great Room concerts are casual, comfortable and like most of their public events, admission is at the discretion of attendees. For more information about the concert, call 518-891-7117.
