Libraries will add new resource for personal care

A new initiative by the Clinton-Essex-Franklin Library System, involving 18 member libraries, is aimed at supporting under-resourced community members.

With the help of the Adirondack Foundation’s Generous Acts program, CEFLS was able to launch a project to distribute essential hygiene items to area residents in need and to offer staff training.

Businesses in the region, including Hannaford and Big Lots, also supported the project by donating supplies.

The personal care items include toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, shampoo, body wash, tissues, bottles of antiperspirant, space blankets, menstrual pads and printed information about library resources to support individuals in need.

The supplies will be offered individually, in personal care pantries, or as kits packaged in bags or boxes.

Some libraries will partner with organizations in their community to distribute the items.

The project was designed to allow each location to tailor the program to meet the specific needs of the library and the community.

Area residents are invited to contribute supplies through an Amazon wish list at cefls.org/community-care-donate or by contacting a participating library — visit cefls.org/libraries for additional contact information:

In partnership with the United Way of the Adirondack Region, library staff will also receive comprehensive training regarding the challenges faced by people living in poverty and on identifying resources and strategies to empower under-resourced community members.

By addressing tangible needs and sending a message that people care, this initiative aims to provide hope and support to those facing significant challenges, a news release said.

“It is a crucial step towards making a difference in the lives of individuals in our region while fostering a sense of community.”
