SARANAC LAKE — Photographer Barry Lobdell will be the featured artist for the month of August at the Adirondack Artists Guild.

The show, “A Thing About Trees,” will open with a reception from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2 and will run through Sept. 2.

“When I was growing up, our backyard had a large black cherry tree for its centerpiece that was great to climb. I would spend endless hours in the tree, alone or sometimes with neighborhood kids who’d come to visit,” Lobdell said. “There was also a stand of maples on the edge of our yard and I loved climbing high into the uppermost branches, often swaying in the wind 50 feet above the ground! It was during those climbs when I’d be hanging on for dear life that I truly became a tree hugger. Today, I no longer climb much but my appreciation for trees has only increased with time. Looking up has continued unabated in my life and documenting what I see in the world of trees shows no sign of stopping.

“This exhibition is focused on the variety of trees which I’ve seen, particularly in the Adirondacks but also in various locations across the country,” he added. “My travels haven’t been extensive enough to capture images of many other wonderful types of trees around the world, i.e. the Baobab or Dragonwood, but I will keep documenting those which I do come across.”
