Adirondack Voters for Change Community Hub opens Thursday

SARANAC LAKE — Adirondack Voters for Change will open their Community Hub on Thursday, July 18, at 38 Broadway, next to Community Bank.

Joining the Third Thursday Art Walk, the Hub will celebrate its opening with a launch party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

“The Hub will mobilize political action and serve as a central location for information and outreach on important issues and values,” a news release from AVFC reads. “Exhibits and information tables will focus on voter registration and getting out the vote, combating climate change, reproductive health care for all citizens, including the passage of the New York Equal Rights Amendment, and learning about end-of-life choices.”

“We are very proud to bring this historic building back to life by providing a physical space for community members to gather, engage in meaningful dialogue and access needed resources,” Kary Johnson, president of AVfC, said.

The building at 38 Broadway, once Penney’s mail order services, has been vacant for years. According to Historic Saranac Lake, it was built around 1895.

A dollar-for-dollar match is in place through a GoFundMe campaign for Hub six-month expenses. Approximately one-third of estimated costs have been raised.

The Hub will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The location will be available to civic-minded groups who are interested in sharing the space.

Starting at $4.75/week.
