PAUL SMITHS — Northern New York Audubon and the Paul Smith’s College Visitor Interpretive Center this week announced their partnership in the 20th Great Adirondack Birding Celebration, which will be held from Friday, May 31 to Sunday, June 2.

The GABC invites adventurers and nature enthusiasts to explore the stunning landscapes of northern New York through the enchanting activity of birding. Designed to cater to all levels of bird watchers, the event offers a variety of family-friendly activities perfect for beginners, as well as specialized tours and lectures for more experienced birders. Participants will have the chance to learn about the region’s diverse avian population, including rare and migratory species.

The celebration is designed for people of all ages to connect with nature, learn about bird conservation and enjoy the Adirondack environment. Highlights include guided birding walks, expert-led lectures and Adirondack raptors.

On Friday, Raquette River Brewing will release its newest craft beer, the Canada Jay IPA, produced in collaboration with Northern New York Audubon. This partnership combines the artistry of brewing with a commitment to environmental conservation, celebrating the rich biodiversity of the Adirondack region.

“We are excited to partner with Northern New York Audubon to bring the Canada Jay IPA to life,” said mark Jessie, head brewer at Raquette River Brewing. “This collaboration not only celebrates our shared love for nature and conservation but also highlights the remarkable biodiversity of the Adirondack region.”

Known for its intelligence and adaptability, the Canada jay is a familiar sight in the Adirondack Mountains, where it roams through dense forests and alpine habitats year-round. With its distinctive gray plumage and friendly demeanor, the Canada jay serves as an ambassador for the region’s natural beauty, captivating birdwatchers and outdoor enthusiasts with its charming antics.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Raquette River Brewing on this exciting project,” said Catherine Smith, co-president of Northern New York Audubon. “By raising awareness of the Canada jay and its habitat, we hope to inspire others to join us in protecting and preserving the Adirondack wilderness for generations to come.”
