SARANAC LAKE — Village police charged a Saranac Lake woman on Tuesday evening for allegedly possessing large quantities of psychedelic and stimulant drugs with the intent to sell.

Police Chief Darin Perrotte said this arrest came after a “lengthy investigation” and a search warrant was issued for her home on Kiwassa Road.

Aimee M. Donaldson, 39, of Saranac Lake was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, all felonies, as well as two counts of second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.

Perrotte said Harrietstown Town Court Justice David Hayes issued the warrant for Donaldson’s home at 189 Kiwassa Road.

“Police seized a significant amount of various narcotics and paraphernalia within the residence and from an associated vehicle,” Perrotte said in a statement.

He said police found psilocybin mushrooms, methamphetamine, crystal methamphetamine, cocaine and crack cocaine, as well as around $3,500 in cash, scales, smoking devices, and packaging used in the distribution and sale of narcotics.

“Items located are consistent with the sale of the narcotic drugs,” Perrotte said in a statement. “Drugs like this are consuming our community. People are falling victim to the opioid abuse epidemic and becoming addicted to these dangerous street drugs and we will continue doing what it takes to get them off our streets.”

He said the drugs seized “hold a street value of several thousand dollars.”

Perrotte said Donaldson was arraigned in Harrietstown Town Court before Hayes and remanded to Franklin County Jail.

Police also charged Ashley E. Thompson 39, of Saranac Lake in connection with an outstanding warrant from the Lake Placid Police Department and she was turned over to LPPD.

Perrotte said the arrest came after an investigation in conjunction with New York State Police. He said village police worked with State Police’s Troop B Uniform Patrol, Violent Gangs and Narcotics Enforcement Team, Community Stabilization Unit, the Drug Enforcement Administration Major Trafficking Task Force, Essex County Sheriff’s Office K-9 and Lake Placid Police Department.

Further charges are likely, he added.
