SARANAC LAKE — Petrova Elementary School’s fifth grade students participated an event styled after the TV game show “Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?” on the 100th day of the school year this past Thursday.

Participants included Jackson Williams, Braeden Curry, Thomas Gaylord, Landon Jacques, Kameron Dumont, Dallas Ames, Lucy Dearborn, Kiya Snyder, Hayden Doyle, Lily Nashett, Mason Wilcox and Maya Lynch versus Team Munn: Bryan Munn, Dr. David Francis, Siera Burke, Annie Karger and Ben Munn. The event was hosted by Bill Wilson.

The fifth grade students were prepared ahead of the event with lessons teachers Heather Volyanik, Jamie Rohe and Polly Grebe have been doing since the beginning of the school year.

The adult team did not stand a chance when it came to the social studies and science content that these fifth graders knew.

“We were so impressed with the knowledge our fifth graders had, and with the high quality teaching that has come from our fifth grade teachers,” a news release from Petrova Elementary School read. “Hats off to Mrs. Heather Volyanik, Mrs. Jamie Rohe and Mrs. Polly Grebe. If you see them in the community this weekend, give them a shout out because they are rockstar teachers to say the least. We feel lucky to have them guiding our fifth graders into middle school.”
