New Year’s Day ‘First Day Hike’ planned at John Brown Farm

LAKE PLACID — John Brown Farm State Historic Site is among a number of state parks throughout New York hosting a First Day Hike to greet the new year.

Residents and visitors to the Lake Placid region are being invited to visit John Brown Farm at 115 John Brown Road, Lake Placid, on New Year’s Day for a guided hike on the trails.

Guided hikes will start at 10:30 a.m. at the visitor center in the barn. There will be a choice of a longer or shorter walk (1-2 miles). If the snow is deep, organizers recommend guests bring snowshoes, or other appropriate footwear and attire for the conditions. The historic site will provide a bandana for those who would like a memento of their visit.
