Rochester Institute of Technology student Matthew Grant, 22, was found alive and well Wednesday when he walked into a police station to call his mother. Grant was reported missing on Nov. 20.

Authorities in Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania discovered Grant’s jeep on Tuesday, ABC News 13 reported. Grid searches were launched Wednesday on Mount Minsi, as Grant was an avid hiker and his car was found in a parking lot often used by hikers trekking along the Appalachian Trail, according to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

While searches were underway, Grant found out about the search and went to the police station in Palmerton, 30 miles away, according to ABC News 13. He called his mother to let her know he was safe.

Grant, who went missing on Nov. 20, left home without his phone or wallet. His Jeep was seen taking the thruway exit near Syracuse, but then he disappeared. That night, he had been looking online at maps of the Appalachian Trail and the Adirondacks, according to his internet history. Law enforcement agencies investigated his disappearance for several weeks before pinpointing a specific search location.

On Thursday, Grant released a public statement on a Facebook page dedicated to his safe return. He wrote: “Hello everyone, Matthew Grant here. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone that helped in the search process. I feel incredibly grateful to have people like you all in my corner. It’s hard to understand just how much support you will have, regardless of how you are doing personally. I am doing much better now that I am reunited with my family. It means the world to me. I don’t have my phone right now but as soon as I do I will try and thank every person I can individually. I can’t say it enough, thank you so much.”

In a statement, Grant’s family thanked those who helped them search for Matthew.
