TUPPER LAKE — Wednesday’s varsity basketball game on the Lumberjacks’ home court was nothing short of miraculous. Two players reached the coveted 1,000 career points milestone during the game.

The first to reach 1,000 was Lisbon Golden Knights’ Cooper Rutherford in the first quarter. In the second, Tupper Lake Lumberjacks’ senior Tom Peterson put up his.

Peterson needed just 16 points to reach 1,000. The home crowd went wild when Peterson hit his ninth basket. With that layup, he crossed a threshold into a group of rare achievers. The team enveloped him in a massive huddle and he was presented with a 1,000 Club ball.

“I’m stoked for him. He’s worked hard. He does 300 shots every night,” said Tom’s father Cecil Peterson.

After a pause for celebration for both players, the Lumberjacks and Golden Knights continued a high-paced game with focus and drive. The Lumberjacks took the lead early and held it until they defeated the Golden Knights 83-50, remaining undefeated for the season at 6-0. Peterson scored 32 points in total. Their next game is at Saranac Lake on Friday, Dec. 12.

“I feel amazing; I’m so happy I could get this today,” Tom said. “It was a really fun game.”
